1 Night
It wasn’t the best of nights sleep and we should known better than to park under a tree when it’s raining. The random drips are nowhere near as acceptable as constant rain on the roof.
Our last day in Wales was to be spent exploring the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, that carries the Llangollen Canal across the River Dee in the Vale of Llangollen.
Completed in 1805 having taken ten years to design and build. It is 12 feet (3.7 metres) wide and is the longest aqueduct in Great Britain as well as the highest canal aqueduct in the world at 39m.
A towpath runs alongside the watercourse on one side, with a railing which we walked across. A chat with the canal trust guy told us that people do paddle board across it standing up, some even while operating a drone! It gets interesting enough when you meet people coming the oposite direction and one of you has to shuffle over to the canal side. The opposite side of the canal has no railings.
After the walk across, we did the walk under an observed its marvel from below before walking up to the Chapel café for lunch.
We had originally planned to stay the night here but the parking spot wasn’t that inspiring and it was still early so we made our way out of Wales to the village of Leighton in Shropshire, where we found a welcoming pub to spend the evening. Table booked for 7 👍.
