The Mill at Leighton proved to be a perfect spot for a Saturday night. Originally a mill, with some of the working still in place as you walk in. We had a lovely evening meal before retiring back to Priscilla.
So today we had a leisurely start with avocado and bacon sandwich for breakfast then set off for a lovely town on the river Severn, Upton upon Severn. There’s a car park there with facilities for motorhomes provided by the local council, and what a great spot it was.
Great but for the fact the river was seriously bursting its banks. We took a wander around the town and checked out the flood defences that were clearly in place. This was not a town unfamiliar with the risk of flood. Even the car park we were in was partially covered in water. We went to the local shop to buy some supplies and even the girl in the shop said the river was still rising.
We sat and pondered …do we stay and watch the water rise or do we make tracks for higher ground. The road to our car park was filling with water and it was looking like we could be stuck between two rising waters, so we legged it.
We headed for Evesham, also on a river (Avon) but were getting stuck for places to go and it was getting dark.
Our route took us through the town of Pershore which, after much deliberation of its suitability, is were we decided to stay for the night.
It’s dead quiet at the moment but its outside a local hospital so no doubt will get busy early, which is not a problem as Priscilla is having some enhancements tomorrow just outside Evesham.
