So the Inwi phone fiasco continued early this morning in bed with a cup of tea. Turned on our data connection and after a brief period of connection, nothing, it didn’t even recognise we had a number so our first thoughts were we had been cut off. We were isolated, cut off from the rest of the world, how on earth was we going to continue.
Tea drank, showered and dressed I went to the reception to connect to their wifi. At least I might be able to see why we had been cut off. I walked into the reception and it was all in darkness, just some light from the open door but this is not unusual in Morocco, their rooms and shops are often dark. Then the guy from the site, who I couldn’t see sitting in the darkness, called out something about wifi and something French. It turns out all the power to the area is down including the telephone and internet masts and thats why we had no connection. It was due to be back on by 3pm but it came back about 11am, we were jumping with joy. Meanwhile, Jo not realising the power was off, was joyousley filling up the site washing machine thinking she had beat the Germans when infact, there was no power. So she did it all by hand and saved us 50 mad.
We were sitting in the sun just watching the washing dry and contemplating a walk up the mountain when in came this red pickup with popup roof and a Asian lady walking in front making a bit of a comotion. They parked nearby us and started chatting to us in good English. Turned out they were from South Korea and had driven 60,000 kilometers, on a 2 year trip. They took a boat from South Korea to Vladivostok and then through Siberia and Russia then through eastern Europe to West Europe, amazing.
We never did get to walk up the mountain, just a walk along the almost dry riverbed.
Tomorrow we move on to Midelt.
