Kasbah Jurassique Camping

The heavy rain that was forecast for yesterday did not materialise in any way. Not a drop of rain where we were anyway.

We paid our fee, packed up and left Camping Tamaris and Goulmima behind, probably our least favorite place so far. Jo driving, our next destination was Kasbah Camping Jurassique, just to the north of Errachidia, in the beautiful Ziz valley canyon.

Before we reached the site we stopped off in the city of Errichidia. First of all to do some grocery shopping in the Marjane supermarket as they have a large car park and some of the more European bits you can’t get in town. When we were heading into the supermarket, we were approached by three teenage boys on bikes. The spoke some english and very good french so we had a good chat with them. When it was time to leave then, they then did the usual and asked for some derhams. We said no sorry.

We also needed to sort our Inwi phone sim cards as we have been getting texts of disconnection and none of it made any sense.

Even in a big city with police checks, kamakazi cyclists and pedestrians it is fairly simple to find somewhere to park but the first Inwi shop I navigated us to, took us into a medina with it’s unmade roads and tight turns. We abandoned that shop and headed for the second one, parked a little way up the street and walked back to the shop. The fella in the shop didn’t speak English but Jo’s French was brilliant, although I don’t think his was, so we still struggled. The shop filling up with customers, he got his mate who eventually came out and did speak English but was of little help and directed us to a third Inwi shop that was walking distance away. The guy in the third shop spoke English and after some time convinced us our phone connection would remain in place. So we will see how it goes.

Back to the van and we continued our journey. We haven’t come across many traffic lights at all but we did on our drive out and it was red. They even have a timer counting down so you have an idea when to go. Then with me in the passenger seat, window wound down. Two african looking hooded men with masks came to my window muttering something in an unknown (to me) language. This was when the timer on the traffic lights came in handy, because I knew how long we had before we could escape. I muttered something back and one of them replied, again in a strange language, so I then replied in my own version of Swahili and that baffled them long enough for the lights to turn green and we took off, phew.

Through the Ziz gorge and now at our very nice campsite where we will probably spend the next two nights.
