Sidi Kacem

This morning we set off for Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site with the ruins of a major Roman outpost. Built in the 3rd century BC as a Berber settlement, a thriving Roman city.

On arrival, it seemed to be one of the most touristy places we had been.  Coaches, and then in came about a dozen Italian motorhomes on a tour.

It was warm with some sun as we walked around, quite vast area of Roman ruins, and fairly impressive.

After our walk around, we treated ourselves to an ice cream, which we ate inside Priscilla due to it being Ramadan, before setting off again.

Our stop for tonight was a fuel station just outside the town of Sidi Kacem, where the residents were evacuated a few weeks ago, due to floods.   We could see where the mud had covered the roads as we drove in, now pushed to the side.

We filled with diesel and parked in a far corner of the forecourt.  Had dinner, which we shared with a wild dog that seemed resident here. Then Jo gave water to a passing horse that seemed to have an itch as it kept scratching itself on the trees. Fed a truck driver, with nuts, figs and an orange,  who had stopped to break his fast for the evening.

We are now less than 300 miles from the port of Tanger Med, and starting to plan our journey back to Europe.
