1 Night
Today turned out to be a quite long day of driving.
I went into the E Leclerc we were parked in, to grab a baguette for breakfast, so by the time we ate, emptied the waste, and refuelled, we didn’t get going very early.
The weather was rainy, misty, and generally quite gloomy as we drove. Our destination was on the northern side of Bordeaux, at an Aire by the Dordogne River.
We paused for lunch at an Aire on the autoroute and finished the baguette we had bought earlier.
After that, we decided to drive further and head to the other side of Bordeaux. The town of Escource seemed to have a suitable spot and was only about 80 miles away—80 miles that turned out to be the longest we’ve ever driven.
Navigating around Bordeaux, even on the autoroute, is a lengthy and busy process. We hadn’t anticipated the many diversions and very slow, heavy traffic, which we attributed to protesting French farmers.
We arrived at what used to be a tennis court in the town of Escource after dark. We had read there was a place to get pizza, so we walked to find it. It turned out to be a machine, similar to a large ATM but dispensing pizzas instead of cash. After ordering two pizzas, we tried to find where we had left Priscilla in the rain and darkness.
Luke-warm pizza, beer, and wine while parked on an old tennis court. Friday night at its best.
