The day began in its usual fashion of getting up about the same time as the sun was rising, kettle on and tea in bed while it warms up.
Below the sandy rocky ledge where we are parked, there is a little jetty with several small fishing boats. We had heard that it is possible to go out in one, and they take you on a trip around the lagoon. There are no signs, no board with pricing, boat trips here, you just wait and along comes a man and asks if you would like to go out, in French/Moroccan.
We walked went down the steps to the little jetty with the fella, and he filled the outboard with fuel from a 5-litre plastic drinking water bottle. These bottles are used for all sorts. Fuel, washing soap, orange juice and a makeshift toilet.
He pushes the boat off the shore, declines any help, and we meet him at the end of the jetty to climb aboard.
Just the two of us and the fisherman. Past flamingos, duckbills, herons, further out into the lagoon on a beautiful day. He takes us over to the far side where the dunes are, and we all jump out, he secures his very rusty anchor in the sand, and we both climb the dunes, which overlook the lagoon with wonderful views.
Back in the boat, we make our way around the far side of the lagoon to where we are parked and return along the shoreline. making this one of the highlights of our tour.
The rest of the day was spent studying the shiny ball in the sky.
