Sygun Copper Mine

After our adventurous hike to the summit of Cadir Idris, today, Sunday was supposed to be an easy going day but it turned out to be less sedate than we anticipated.

After breakfast we left our two night abode, heading north to the quirky village of Portmerion. Known for its particular Baroque style and setting of the TV series The Prisoner.

It being November and it being always raining, it was very quiet in what could have been rammed full of people during the summer time.

We wandered the streets of Portmerion in the rain. Stopping off in one of the few cafes that were open for a cream scone and cuppa before heading off.

Next stop, Tesco! …Porthmadog for a few provisions. This was busy despite it being November and it raining 😁.

We then headed north to just past Beddgelert and an old copper mine. Our park up for the night. Before we settled in though we had to visit the mine. Jo has a dislike for enclosed spaces and the tunnels were low and narrow so posed a bit of a challenge but it was soon overcome. We were given hard hats and off we went into the tunnels of the copper mine.

Sygun Copper Mine is a Victorian copper mine which closed in 1903 but was renovated and reopened as a tourist attraction in 1986, and once a main supplier of minerals in Wales.

Our copper mining complete, we headed back to dry off have a drink and prepare an evening curry for evening meal.
