Most days are pretty good, some are very good but today was one of those great days that will stand out in our travel memories.
It rained all night and despite the forcast being good for today, doubts were setting in and our hike to the summit of Cadir Idris had a grain of doubt when we woke. We’d made the rolls the night before so we were not eating them in the van.
And like most of these times of doubt, the sun pokes out, the rain held off and we made our way up the via the Pony Path, across rocks and muddy, soaked paths to the summit of Cadir Idris. The route up was very quiet with hardly anyone else with us. Mist set in above 600m so visibility was poor and nothing could be seen from the summit, despite a glimmer of blue sky above us.
Just the two of us at the trig point, where you would normally struggle to take that photo with no one else in it.
We had our packed lunch at 893m in the mist then made our way down the Fox’s path. A particularly precarious route down of steep paths and loose rocks.
Things levelled out when we reached Llyn y Gader, mountain lake, and continued on our way back down. A few streams to cross that were lacking in bridges, one in particular, but in the end we just went for it, slippery rocks fortunately didn’t get the better of us.
And finally back to our four wheeled home for the evening. Will stay here for the night and move on tomorrow.
