First job of the day was a walk along the Ridgeway in search of drinking water and fill oir container up from a trickling tap hidden in the hedgerow. A spot on the map known as the Ridgeway Water Fountain.
This is a lovely part of the country — high up on the ridge, you can see for miles. It’s horse-racing country, and as we left, our route took us through Lambourn, which, after Newmarket, is the largest centre of racehorse training in England.
We crossed the Severn Bridge with a wet welcome into Wales and carried on into the Brecon Beacons, where we found a park-up at a disused railway line.
We treated ourselves to lunch in the old railway café, then followed the path down to a fast-flowing stretch of the great River Wye.
We decided this was a good spot for the night so settled in with a cup of tea and an apple scone 🙂.
