1 Night
It was a nice quiet night on the airstrip with no more landings and a good nights sleep.
The owner guy turned up just as we were toping up the water tank and we had a chat about the gyrocopters landing yesterday. He told us they had flown 1½ hours out, which seems a fair journey in an open top aircraft. He also said one of then had previously crashed on take off with a cross wind but only ended up with a broken shoulder.
Continuing our journey the next stop was at the remote Loop Head, on the western tip of county Clare. At the very end is the lighthouse which you can go to the top for fantastic views but it was closed for refurb works by the look of it, so we missed our chance and just had a walk around and a cuppa in the car park.
Moving on we made our way to Kilrush at the mouth of the river Shannon and into the Aldi for a shop only to see a notice on the door cash only. It appeared the internet in the whole town was out. We may well have had enough euros but while Jo shopped I walked over to Tescos for a cash machine.
Shop done, next stop was Killimer port to get the short ferry across the Shannon to Tarbert. With only a few cars on the ferry and 20 minutes crossing we were soon in Tarbert and a short journey to our stop for the night.
Carrigafoyle Castle or the remains of at the edge of the Shannon estuary is our stopover, with dinner underway and a raising tide getting ever closer to the level of our gravel car park.
