1 Night
Up at 6am this morning for an early start to get back down the mountain as heavy rain is forcast.
We usually put the kettle on for a cuppa, and turn the water heater on ready for a shower but this morning it didn’t fire up. No fault showing it just wasn’t igniting and it started to look like we might be having cold showers. The controls are under the passengers seat beneath a box of Jo’s wine, so after removing the seat and wine I disconnected and then reconnected the main connector which seemed to have worked.
Sunrise was at 08.08 and we don’t travel in the dark so we set off just before 8 as it was getting light and I put the front fogs on to light up the potholes. The steel gates to the camp were shut so I opened them and Jo drove the van out then I closed them behind us and we made our way slowly back down the gorge. Our original plan was travel to Goulmima via a longer scenic route that was recommended to us but with the bad weather forecast we went back the way we came, then on to Goulmima.
On some stretches of the road, what tarmac there is just dissapears and your driving on cratered gravel, so it’s real slow going. Hardly any traffic and that makes it easier, the 20 miles out of the gorge took us about 45 minutes.
Due to the early start we arrived early at Camping Tamaris. A tired looking site in the middle of this fairly large town.
We parked up and went straight into town, bought some of the flat round Moroccan breads and a whole chicken for dinner tonight. We even found a hand brush to replace the one the wild dog stole from outside the van in M’Hamid.
It’s half past four and the chicken is on the Moroccan bbq. No rain yet and it’s warm so we’re outside drinking a wine and a beer.
