3 Nights
It’s all getting a bit of a community. We spoke to Nigel, and Diane said our goodbyes. We couldn’t find Mitch and Jenny, they were probably having a lie-in. It was Jenny’s birthday. Then, while filling up with water, we spoke to the two Swiss guys in the big overland trucks.
The conversation started with water filtration, but then moved on to where we were going, and that’s when we got a top tip. There was a shop in Zagora, our next stop, called Supermarket Sahara, and it sold alcohol. Just a few days shy of Ramadan, this was our last chance to get a few beverages.
Just as we were on the outskirts of Zagora, a guy on a scooter came alongside us, and started shouting. All in good spirits, shouting, nothing abusive or threatening. I wound the window down and started shouting back, all nonsense of course.
I slowed down, and we had a less nonsensical discussion, still, while going along. It turned out he was from the garage in Zagora, which we follow on Instagram. We had sort of said we would visit them when we get there. No trick missed here, they were waiting with a reception party (man on a scooter).
I explained, while still driving side by side, that we had an important rendezvous with a certain supermarket. He understood and escorted us into Zagora, right up to Supermarket Sahara.
Several bottles of wine and one bottle of dubious whisky plus a bottle of gin later, we were escorted to Garage Iriki. Complete with a welcoming party, served mint tea and a photo session.
Our man on the scooter, real name, amigo_del_desierto (friend of the desert), showed us around the workshop, then at one point I lost Jo while she was whisked into a nearby shop, selling rugs and other very Moroccan bits.
Eventually, we got away, while promising we would return, and off to Camping Les Jardins de Zagora.
All settled in, very hot, 27 degrees. Time for a fasting day soup.
