1 Night
After three extremely hot days and nights in Zagora, we set off for the High Atlas Mountains. Course heading, northwest, so slightly back on ourselves, but our first stop was Ouarzazate, noted as a film-making location, but for us it was the Carrefour, and it’s “cave” (alcohol section) that we were interested in.
Alcohol in Morocco is sold, or when it is sold, separately from the rest of the supermarket sales. You pay for it separately and in today’s case, even leave by a separate door, out into the street.
So, the booze shop done, circle back into the Carrefour and get some food. Back to Priscilla, who was safely parked down the road outside a police station. We had a quick lunch and got back on the road to just outside Ouarzazate, on the edge of Lake Ouarzazate, also known as Mansour Eddahbi reservoir.
Apparently known for its stunning, contrasting, arid, and lush, palm-lined shores, it is a popular spot for birdwatching, fishing, and relaxing amidst the scenic landscape. For us, it was windswept, blowing a gale, ripping the van doors off. So we had to spend the rest of the afternoon inside.
Our next moves are further into the High Atlas, but the weather shows snow for tomorrow. So tomorrow we will probably hang back before heading up the Dades gorge and crossing back down to Todra gorge.
