1 Night
Time for a recap on where we are, 59 days of travel, 3500 miles/5600km covered. The most striking thing is the weather. There has been a lot of it. From bloody cold to bloody hot, lots of rain, sandstorms and definitely lots of wind.
Travel as we do, you tend to keep a close eye on the weather, and the storms in northern Morocco and Southern Europe we have watched closely.
This morning we left the lake just outside Ouarzazate and headed for a rock formation in the Dadès Gorge known as Monkey Fingers (Pattes Des Singes). Along the route, we decided to divert to The Valley of Roses, just outside the town of Kalaat M’Gouna, an oasis at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains, famous for cultivating Rosa damascena. Renowned for its pink landscapes. A good drive, but at this time of year, lacking in roses, so we admired the view and continued back to our original route.
A slight change in plan, we decided to stop the night in the city of Boumalne Dades just before the Dades gorge, and spend the night there. Good decision, as the place had a special appeal to us. We parked up in a Riad with parking for several motorhomes.
Once we had settled in, we walked down the hill back to the city for a Valentine’s lunch. The sun was shining, but the wind was still blowing, and with the altitude of about 1600m, definitely a drop in temperature.
After our rather filling lunch sitting outside, we walked further down the street and back up to buy some bread and eggs before returning to Priscilla.
The clocks go back at 3am tonight for Ramadan.
