2 Nights
This morning we left our lakeside spot and said goodbye to the sand dunes of the Sahara. Travelling north back into the High Atlas.
But, just as we were packing up, a small group of six camels came right down into the lake. Munching away on the vegetation growing out of the water. We have quite a few camels now, but this was quite a sight.
Eventually, on our way, Jo at the helm, it wasn’t long before we came across the next highlight of the morning. A convoy of loads (100+) old Renault 4, shooting along the rough tracks, hooting and flashing lights as they passed.
It turns out they are part of the 4L Trophy. An annual student rally-raid across Europe and North Africa, run using the classic Renault 4 (nicknamed the “4L”).
Jo pulled over, I jumped out, took some vids, and we were off again. Next stop was going to be the Marjane supermarket in Errachidia, about 100 miles north.
We ended up stopping before that, though, as our Inwi phone sim were to expire on Friday. That, with the possibility of our Starlink ceasing after its 60 days out of country use, made our phone data critical.
Our phones recharged with data, we were back on the road, and soon at the Marjane, which we recognised as one we visited in 2024. Followed by a refuel for diesel and then onto our camping spot, probably for the next two nights.
We arrived at Kasbah Jurassique Camping in the Ziz Gorge, where we had stayed in 2024, and not much changed in the two years. The weather was not the high 20’s we had been used to, and it was a little overcast, but to be expected at the higher altitude.
