La Vallee Camping

We didn’t see anyone for as far as the eye can see, or hear a soul all night. The wind whips up at times and then subsides to a complete calm. Some light rain but nothing to make the ground problematic for us.

The road out was slow, with sandy tracks followed by washboard roads until it hit back on the tarmac.

Heading for the City of Guelmim, where there’s a huge market on the outskirts, where you can buy cauliflowers to camels. We bought neither, but did buy some veg, and I bought some Moroccan attire to help me blend in a bit (see photos) 😁

Our next stop was just outside the city, Le Vallee Camping. Situated in a valley with the river running through.

When we arrived, down a steep slope, it looked empty; maybe it wasn’t open. There was a large unoffensive dog and one other van, then out popped a man in a bright yellow rain jacket. We had read the man who owned it was called Moussa, and spoke good English. Well, this fella couldn’t speak any English, and I’m not sure he was actually speaking any known language.

Anyway, we got the gist that he wanted to show us around his empty, bar 1 van, campsite. We were keen to get water, and that took some explaining, but we got there.

He offered us tagine for tonight, which we accepted, but later read that this could be camel. I’ve got my eye on the dog just in case he’s out of camel or (our preferred) chicken.
