Dinis Cottage Layby

Last night we ended up in Dan Murphys for a pint and a wine, when in came our neighbours and we got chatting so it turned into 2 pints and 2 wines.

We left Goosey Island at a leisurely 10.30 something, back on the Ring of Kerry but leaving the Wild Atlantic Way route for a while to explore Killkarny National Park. Located around the town of Killkarney by Lough Leane.

We found a little park up by Muckross lake, a lay-by off the road sheltered by trees, it’s all very woody around here and a walkers spot . From there we did a 6 mile walk, ½ mile of which was up a super steep incline consisting of slippery wet rocks. The views from the top over lake Muckross and lough Leane were pretty good but not amazing. The route down took us to Torc Waterfall and that was impressive. Then on to Muckross house with its rather well kept grounds where we took the chance coffee and cake in the café.

During the walk back out of the  grounds of the house we happened to spot several deer with full antlers not too far in the distance.

Back at the van, the lay-by only had a couple of cars parked with the occasional coming and goings.

Seems a very cosy and quiet spot …lets hope it stays that way.
