Dingle Food Festival

Well we didn’t venture back into town last night and instead got into our pyjamas and made a cup of tea 😄

A noisy night and I suppose what can you expect parked in a pub car park in Ireland but there was lots of shouting until gone 3am. We woke to the kind of weather that makes this place so green, it was hammering down.  A real shame for everyone involved in the Dingle food festival but this wasn’t going to put us off as we donned wet weather gear and went in search of Dingles culinary delights.

The streets were full of food traders, locals and visitors alike. There was an abundance of award winning produce such as pickles, honey, bread etc.

You were asked to bring along your own bowl and if not you could hire/buy one and you purchased tokens to buy your food at the stalls. We sampled an assortment of griddled fish in garlic butter, oysters with a spicy gin sauce, prawns in a salad leaf wrap and finished off with fantastic spicy hot sausage dog. All of which were delicious.

We periodically popped into some interesting pubs; Foxy Johns which doubles as a bike repair shop and hardware store 🤷‍♀️.

We stood and listened to several musicians playing typical Irish music which drew a large crowd, some of which had a dance or two.

After several hours we headed back to the van just in time before the heavens opened.

Tomorrow we’re moving just a few miles further along the Dingle peninsula to explore the Blasket islands
