Clogher Beach

Another rowdy night in the pub car park where the jovialities and singing continued until 4am.

A cooked breakfast this morning and a later get away with first stop the Lidl just around the corner. Then a fuel station to fill up with water and jet wash the van.

The road out of Dingle took us past the Whiskey distillery and along an amazing cliff top coastal road to Coumeenoole Beach where we stopped and went down to beautiful golden sandy beaches. Apparently some Star Wars filming was done here.

Then we drove a couple of miles along the coast to Dunquin, the most westerly parish on the Dingle Peninsula and the Blasket Centre with its views over the Blasket islands.

A unique heritage centre and museum. The Blasket Centre tells the story of the Blasket Islands and the tiny Irish speaking community who lived there until the mid-20th century.

Life on the Blaskets was tough. People survived by fishing and farming and every day involved a struggle against the elements. Emigration and decline led to the final evacuation of the Great Blasket in 1953. A number of the islanders documented the life of their community in a series of books that formed a record of life during those times. They are both a window into the past and a fascinating resource for today.

We had lunch in the car park before moving on. Not really sure where we were staying tonight all the coastline looked amazing. We noticed a small cove with a beach in the distance so set out sights on that. Clohger Strand; what a spot with huge waves crashing in over the rocks. The wind and rain, nature putting on a grand display in full force.

We decided to make this our home for the night with view of the Blasket Islands from the bedroom window.
