Tafraout Town

A very cold morning, only 7°C so put the heating on first thing. The sky was clear but takes a while for the sun to come over the mountains. It looks stunning though, early sun shining on the red ricks if the mountains.

We took a stroll into the town and it looked like it was market day but I think its like this every day. We found a little supermarket and bought a few supplies then went into the indoor veg market where we bought a good selection of veg. There is an amazing amount of fresh looking veg which makes you wonder where it comes from as it looks like nothing will grow here. We also went into the meat market where they had camel heads hanging up and camel feet on the floor next to a hungry looking cat.
The outside markets seem to sell anything plastic and an abundance of clothes. Then there was an area that looked like an English boot sale with tools strew across a sheet on the ground.

We’ve not been hassled, everyone is friendly and says hello in French and if you ask for help where something is they will try and direct you.

By the time we walked back it was very hot and we were laden with shopping so treated ourselves to an orange juice before we did the chores of the day.

We had a slight mishap on the bumpy roads here and some red wine had leaked on to Jo’s trainers so she cleaned them over at the sinks, with her special cleaning formula while I emptied the toilet. This wasn’t the best toilet emptying experience we’d had and I won’t go into too much detail but it needed help with flushing. Jo offered up the bucket she had been cleaning her trainers in full of soapy water and I slung it down what is the hole where the toilet waste goes. What she hadn’t done was take the laces out, that she’d clean separately, and down the toilet they went.

So later in afternoon we ventured back into the town to find laces. We had asked at numerous market stalls and shop entrances with no luck so bought an ice cream and walked back. We were halfway back and a guy on a bike comes up to us with a bag of laces. Jo had already asked him in the market and he said no but he must have found some and got on his his bike and chased after us.
This evening Jo made an amazing stuffed baby aubergine curry, from the veg we bought from the veg market. Served with Moroccan bread, gorgeous 😋

Tomorrow we move on to just outside the town of Tata.
