This morning, we made our way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A German ski resort in Bavaria, near the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak, with a 2,962m summit accessed by cogwheel train and cable car. Garmisch is considered the more fashionable section, while Partenkirchen’s cobblestone streets retain a traditional Bavarian feel.
We parked up at the cable car station car park for Mount Wank, for a two-night stop, and we will likely walk the mountain tomorrow, although you can go up in the cable car, so we will see how energetic we feel in the morning.
After we had settled in, we walked into town and had lunch in the more traditional part of Partenkirchen. This really does have the feel of a ski resort that has now shed its snow for the summer, but you can imagine it covered in snow. It even has the vibe of a Christmas market without the Christmas.
