The close location to the railway and level crossing didn’t stop us from having a good night’s sleep, as I believe the trains stopped running shortly after 11 pm. However, the freight train passing around 6 am acted as an efficient alarm.
After refilling our water supply at the main campsite, we headed to the Bavarian town of Füssen. This town is known for its violin making and is a great place to visit Neuschwanstein Castle. The castle, famous for its fairy-tale appearance, is situated high in the Bavarian Alps near the village of Hohenschwangau. It was commissioned in the 19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and inspired Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and, in my opinion, more importantly, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
On the way, we stopped at Scheidegger Wasserfälle, a stunning set of waterfalls in the Bavarian forest. The hike to see the waterfalls was relatively easy, though it involved several steps both down and up.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang castle visit is planned for tomorrow, although the weather forecast doesn’t look very promising.
