Nany Y Moch Reservoir

After a night of more Welsh rain, and tucked by the side of the road in our layby, it wasn’t the passing traffic that woke us but the sound of flocks of birds. Something you would expect from a wildfowl conservation area I suppose 🙂.

The laundry bag was bulging so we headed off to a Revolution Laundry at Morrisons in Aberystwyth. Revolution Laundry places are like an outside launderette, normally at fuel stations and supermarkets, and handy for on the road washing.

Washing in, we did a bit of shopping, had lunch in the van, perfectly timed for its removal.

We were going to park up on the sea front in the town but it was too busy so headed for a golf course not far off until we realised they charged and had no facilities. Quick bit of on the hoof planning and we were heading for Nany Y Moch reservoir up in the Cambrian mountains.

Nant-y-moch was once a village. The contents of the graveyard which was to be submerged were relocated to the chapel at Ponterwyd, which we travelled through on our way up.

What a spot this is. Remote, no one here, right on the dam of the reservoir. It is a hydroelectric dam generating power for the region. This is one of those places we certainly never intended to visit that turns out to be a gem.

Oh, it’s still raining.
