Kinsale

A wonderfully peaceful night with no wind or rain to batter us, so a damn fine sleep had by all, plus we woke to a lovely sunny morning.

The town of Kinsale is about a mile or so from where we are parked up by the fort, so walking boots on and off we trekked down a rather steep hill to the town. The walk known as Scilly Walk is a 4 mile trail with great harbour views.

A large busy harbour town on the river Brandon with colourful buildings. We had a good stroll around with a nice lunch at the Cosy Café before more mooching then making our way back.

On the way back we had to stop off at the Bulman Bar for a Guinness and wine before the trek up the hill.

Our home for last night and tonight is beside Charles Fort, a fortification built in 1682 to prevent attack from the river. From outside an imposing place with its pentagonal low lying shape but when you cross over the wooden bridge its more obviously in need of restoration. We listened to a guide explaining the history of the place before making our way back.

It was a busy afternoon by the fort with visitors, dog walkers, the fish and chip van plus coffee stall but this quietened down as it got dark.

We’re sitting here now looking down at the lights of the town and the wind is once again getting up. Forecast is a storm is coming 🥱
