Spanish Point Airstrip
Miltown Malbay
County Clare
Ireland
1 Night
After three nights in one place we were ready to move on so after dumping our waste and filling the tanks we hit the road.
First stop was the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre where for €12 we could park up walk a small bit of the cliffs we hadn’t walked yesterday and to go in the visitors centre. It was busy when we got there but by the time we came out it was just too full of people. We needed to quieten things down a bit and get back to some solitude so we had lunch in the car park and left.
Our next stop Spanish Point just outside Milltown Malbay named after the Spanish who died here in 1588, when ships of the Spanish Armada were wrecked during stormy weather. Those who escaped from their sinking ships and made it safely to land were later executed by the High Sherrif of Clare.
But the most unusual part of this stop was the fact we are parked on a helicopter landing pad in Spanish Point airfield. We’ve enjoyed the afternoon sun; Jo did a bit of washing which is blowing in the breeze and we will settle down shortly with a nice hot chilli con carne 😋
