Early get away today, bang on 9am as we were stopping off in Ouarzazate to do a big shop and there’s a Carrefour in the town.
We passed a couple of film studios on the way into the city and found a parking spot that looked safe was free and within walking distance to the Carrefour. We got some cash from the Poste Maroc and made our way to get some supplies. It even had a seperate part that sold alcohol so we stocked up on that too. Laden with bags of food and booze we made our way back to the van.
The road from Ouarzazate goes along side the river Draa and rises up to the Tizi n Tinififft pass, 1693m. And then decends with twists and turns through a canyon down to the town of Adgz.
From then on a series of small towns with loads of children coming out from school. They all walk or ride bikes along the roadside, some of them very young.
We reached the outskirts of Zagora passing through a couple of police check points, all waved through ok. One truck was pulled over that had a huge load of straw bales which got wider the higher it went and must have been hugely over weight.
We slowly navigated our way through this large town, trying not to run anyone over or knock them off their bike when we came across a lavage (car wash) so we shot in and gave the van a wash. Its’ still not that clean but it got the worst of the mud that was clinging to the lower panels off.
We are now parked up at the grandly named Camping Les Jardins de Zagora where we were met by Mohammed the owner who told us about his tours into the desert and the best tagine in Marocco.
