Camping Tazka

We woke up to dogs barking and cockerels crowing. After breakfast and a chat with the parking gaurdian man, who I think was after a pair of pajamas but I might have got that wrong and anyway I didn’t have a spair pair as I explained to him which if he wasn’t, he must have wondered what I was on about. We did establish he was local, from Sidi Infi and knew Manchester City football club.

Our next stop, 100 miles or so to Tafaroute. Travel here is slow and even slower now we have to traverse the mountains. It took us 4 1/2 hours to reach our destination without stops. Some of it hairy with hairpins and shear drops with no barrier. The roads in some places are poor, with potholes and substantial drops of the edge of the tarmac. Fortunately it’s very quiet and you can drive a long way without seeing another vehicle. The towns that pop up out of nowhere in such wilderness are a different matter and often mayhem. It’s an art of pushing forward while ignoring the impatient local to your rear and avoiding pedestrians, dogs, carts, donkeys and the occasional old fella just standing in the middle of the road that wont budge.

Our aim was to go to what are coloured painted rocks in the desert but somehow we missed it and arrived at our site for the next 2 nights, with the usual assessment of deciding where to pitch up followed by a welcome cup of tea and Jo knocked up a scrumptious chicken dish. And it’s very hot 😎
