1 Night
It was a very wet night in Bourg-d’Oisans, with the rain barely letting up — and it was still coming down as we packed up and prepared to leave.
After saying goodbye to Melanie, we set course for Roanne, just northwest of Lyon on the River Loire. We’d stayed here before at an aire beside the river and canal, so we knew it would make a good stop for the night.
As the miles rolled by, we gradually left the rain behind and, thankfully, the temperature began to climb again. By the time we reached Roanne, the weather had transformed back to warm sunshine with a few clouds — much more like it!
We settled into our spot for the night and headed off on foot to explore the city. After a wander around, we found somewhere that looked good for dinner, made a reservation and headed back to the vans for a while.
Later, we returned to Au Fil de L’Eau, where we had the most amazing moules and frites, followed by a delicious crème brûlée.
With full stomachs, we took a leisurely stroll back along the water, with the lights of Roanne shimmering across the river.
Rainy Alps in the morning, sunshine, moules, crème brûlée and a waterside stroll by evening. Not a bad Friday at all.
