Lac Bourget

One scarey incident yesterday. We were travelling down a mountain road, 50 mph as usual on a good road, little traffic. Then ahead of us in the road I saw an object, this object turned out to be rockfall. A bolder the size of a football. Mindful the guys behind would not see this I indicated to pull around it. Only a truck was heading at us in the opposite direction. I moved over as far as I thought possible, and used the walkie talkies to warn the others, but this was all happening in a split second. We missed it but Amanda & Steven’s van hit it, full on underside, followed by Alison & Shaun. We pulled over at the next layby to check the damage. Amanda & Steven’s van had taken a whack on the centre of the rear axel. Alsion and Shaun there was no obvious damage, but seem to have clipped the rock on both wheels. A lucky escape.

And back to today. We set off on our bikes to  explore the shores of lac Bourget. Along the east of the lake to a beach spot where the three men got down to thier speedos and went for the most amazing dip in the lake.

Soon dried out in the sun we carried on riding south on the cycle path, to the furthest southern point of the lake before turning back.

A stop at the bar we visited last night for ice creams and beers. It’s still very hot and despite some thunder in the mountains, it remained hot and sunny.

Tomorrow we head of to Le Bourg-d’Oisans, out favorite place in the Alps. I pretty much guarantee we will see rain during our time there.
