Bruges has a bit of a feel of Venice, a beautifully preserved Belgian city with tranquil canals, crossed by stone bridges, and lined with cobbled streets. Gothic spires rise above the skyline, and horse-drawn carriages clip-clop through the market squares.
At the centre of the city is the large square, surrounded by large stepped-gable buildings and dominated by the towering Belfry of Bruges. You can climb its narrow spiral staircase, but we decided against that.
Bruges is famous for Belgian chocolate, and it certainly shows, as the streets are lined with shops selling chocolate, waffles with chocolate and more chocolate. This is the place if you love chocolate.
The only downside was that today’s weather was not so good. It was raining and cold, so after a good while walking around, we went into a shop selling waffles, but we ended up having lunch, although we did buy some pastries with chocolate on for later tonight.
We walked back to Priscilla for a warm-up, and by the time we got back, the sun was out, so just a bit of bad timing.
Our last night of our German tour, and tomorrow we leave here for the ferry Dover.
