1 Night
Welcome to 2026.
The call for prayer at 7am seemed longer than usual, perhaps it was a New Years day special edition.
Temperatures had significantly increased to 18°C when we woke and it was dry. Not raining anyway, but still a bog outside.
We had breakfast, had a chat wth our Xtura neighbours, Roger & Jane, then got ready for the off.
We first had to dump our waste water and fill our fresh. This required us to drive across a very wet and muddy campsite to where there’s a large grate in the ground and then we let the waste go, probably into the Atlantic across the road. Then fill up with fresh water which takes ages as the pressure was low.
All done and we’re away, destination the centre if Rabat, Morocco’s capital.
130 miles on excellent Moroccan toll road. Almost empty roads, which makes for easy driving.
This all changes when you enter the City of
Salé on the bank of the Bou Regreg river, opposite Rabat, and then into Rabat itself. It’s super busy, probably at its busiest being a bank holiday.
We navigated to pretty much the only place to park for the night. A piece of rough ground used as a car park. It allowed overnight parking but at 10pm the gates lock and you can’t get in our out.
The temperature now 22°C, shorts weather, so a quick change of attire and we set off to explore the city.
We wandered into the ancient Medina mixed with modern wide boulevards and parklands. The Moroccan royal family palaces are all here and you can tell by how spotless and prestine everything is.
We had a late lunch in an alcove style food joint before further wandering and back to Priscilla in the car park for a cupa and settle in for the night.
It’s very lively and very noisey so don’t know how well we will sleep.
Tomorrow we move further along the coast, a short drive of about an hour to Mohammedia just short of Casablanca.
