We had decided to ditch the train idea and drive into Casablanca. There is a car park suitable for vans right by the Hassan II Mosque, and that was in our list of places to visit.
The weather was warm, sunny, with the occasional heavy shower, which we could deal with.
The journey took us through the city of Mohammedia and into Casablanca. A busy-ish lively drive, where concentration is required, but we soon found the car park, right next to or almost under the Hassan II Mosque.
A lady sitting on a chair by the entrance saw us in and helped us park up. We asked what the cost was and she just said it was up to us, which caught us out a bit, we offered her 50 dirhams/£4 and she smiled, so it must have been ok.
The Hassan II Mosque is an amazing building. It has a capacity for 25,000 inside and 80,000 outside. The only mosque that a non-Muslim can go into by permission of the King.
After going inside, taking a few photos we had an excellent group tour guide show us around and give us an insight into the building and the religion.
After the mosque, we made our way to Rick’s Bar Cafe. A recreation of the set from the film Casablanca. Just took a photo of the outside as we had no interest in going inside.
We wandered the alleyways deeper in the city where the locals go and experienced the real side of live here. Bought some bread and avocados for lunch, then made our way back to Priscilla, taking cover under a canopy for a while as a heavy shower came over.
A short drive out of Casablanca along the coast, and we are now parked up at an organic smallholding, yoga centre, all very rustic.
