Leenaun Parking
County Galway
Ireland
1 Night
A bit concerned that our parking ticket in the windscreen would not be visble after a night in the van and the windscreen condensation up that I had a peek early hours to check. It was fine but expired 08.52 so would need a new one.
Off on our way the first stop was only a few miles along the coastline to the village of Murrisk where there is a memorial to Irelands famine, a bronze sculpture consisting of a coffin ship with skeletons interwoven through the rigging. Overlooked by Croagh Patrick mountain and looking out across the Atlantic.
Back on the road after our brief stop we headed for a park up on the edge Doo Lough for the night. An unintentional change of route took us down a narrow track where we ended up at an amazing beach location, Silver Strand. Hardly anyone there and the sun was shining so we took a stroll along the beach before lunch.
This would have been a good place to stay the night but we carried on to what was one of the best drives so far. A pass through the mountains up to Doo Lough where our intended stopover was closed off so we carried on. Pulled into a lane leading up to a small pier where muscle farming was going on and it didn’t look like the best place to stop so carried on further. More amazing driving and scenery until we crossed to county Galway and ended up in the small village of Leenaun with parking overlooking the Killary Fjord.
Parked up and had a Guinness in Hamiltons bar. Our plan is to return to the bar later this evening for dinner and another pint.
