Gibraltar

Loads of walking today as we made our way on foot over to Gibraltar. Walking in was pretty straight forward and the queue was minimal. Passports stamped and we were back on  British territory. We made a left turn as we went in and instead of crossing the runway, we walked parallel with it along the boarder and the coast, which is a long way round. We then walked through the main shopping area with Next, M&S a Post Office and then out of the main town to where you get the cable car up to the Rock.

The cable car takes you to pretty much near the top of the Rock of Gibraltar. It has a nature reserve there with apparently 300 Barbary macaques (monkeys). Not that we’re into monkeys, and as fascinating as they are, it’s probably more the novelty factor as they roam free. The rock has a labyrinth of caves and some of these you can go in. We went into St Michaels cave, which has an immersive light and sound installation, which was pretty amazing.
The best bit is the views and it was a clear day so we could easily see over to North Africa and down at the many cargo ships below.

Our way down was completely on foot as we seem to have missed the cable car station for the return back. Down back in the town we had lunch and then made our way to the much spoke about Morrisons where we bought a bumper pack of tea bags …wehey.

Now the return bit into Spain. Bit more of a queue than this morning but not too bad. We were getting tired as we’d walked over 10 miles. We got the the Spanish boarder guard, and he asked where we were going. The marina I said. This didn’t seem a sufficient answer but he had another guy with him who seemed British, and he asked if we were in a camper? Yes I said, then his Spanish mate wanted to see the parking ticket we have for the marina.

Fortunately the ticket was in my wallet, showed it and passports stamped and we were through.
