We had booked a taxi to take us from the site into Essaouira. We ended up sharing the taxi with a German couple and their young son.
The smartly dressed, suited taxi driver dropped us all off at the edge of the Medina. We exchanged have a nice days with the Germans, arranged to meet back at 4pm for the return journey, and made our way in.
These places are a maze of narrow alleyways, you end up loosing all sense of direction or where you are. We lost our mat for outside the van when we left Ronda, so we’ve been looking for a replacement and Jo had a shrunken flip flop from leaving by the heater vent, so that needs replacing too. We managed to to get a (prayer) mat and a new pair of flip flops. We also bought some oranges as they are lovely, and some tomatoes, bread and fruit. As we were passing one guy in full berber regalia showed an interest in one of Jo’s beaded bracelets, which meant we ended up in his little shop witn him explaining how he makes the jewelery in the Sahara and the meaning of each piece. We left without purchasing but thanking him for his time.
Lunch was a 2 egg omlette and mint tea in a not very traditional Moroccan place but was nice. Then we wandered more, venturing in to the new part of town.
We got back to the taxi pick up place just before the Germans, and the Moroccan suited driver bought us back.
Dinner was tagine and cous cous by the pool with the Callum & Ethne from the Crafter crew. A young couple with 2 kids full timing in their van.
Tomorrow we move on.
