We hit the first gradient and we were off, slow but on our way. The turn, bends, hairpins seemed to go pretty quick than previously, and it appeared to not be going too bad. The last leg to the top always seems a bit of a haul but we’d done it. We found a café and rewarded ourselves with a Coke and the biggest baguette filled with cheese ham and tomato you’d ever seen.
The next leg, if we felt up to it was a ride over Col De Sarrene. I had wanted to do this ride since we had started coming to the region and Jo was up for giving it a go so we set of out of Huez on our way further up to the Col Sarrene.
This began pretty good out of Huez as it was a downhill section but then came the climb, and it did seem to go on forever. But it rewarded us with some gorgeous scenery, quiet roads and amazing views. The altitude is at 1999m and from then on the decent is all downhill apart from a little kick up, going through villages Le Perron, Mizoën and ending up down by the dam at Lac du Chambon. All went well apart from one minor hickup, Jo got a puncture on the front. Soon fixed though and we were on our way to the bottom soon back on the D1091 heading back to base.
