No weekend lie in for us as we had decided to get up early as we knew the wild swimmers would be back and we didn’t want to overstay our welcome. Also the section of the jetty next to us was conned off with a sign saying boat lifting and we didn’t fancy being next to a boat being lifted out of the water.
So it was a 6 o’clock get up make tea and left just before 7am to a car park around the corner where we had breakfast before moving on.
We continued along the WAW for 20 miles or so before leaving the route to explore The Burren. The Burren National Park is an interesting, rocky landscape made of limestone rock which was formed as part of a tropical sea floor millions of years ago somewhere around the equator.
We drove down the narrow lanes, fortunately barely seeing another vehicle but never came across a place to stop. We did come across the house from the Father Ted sitcom though.
Our route looped around and took us back into the very nice town of Ballyvaughan where we parked up. We visited the farmers market in town where we bought some goats milk soap, local honey and sampled some local oysters that where best oysters ever tasted.
Back to the van, dropped our purchases off and walked along to the pier in the warm sunshine before heading back and moving to a small parking area overlooking Galway bay. Tonight, a home cooked roast.
