Camping Palmier Tata

A fantastic drive today after leaving our spot on the side of the road, buried in the palm trees, at Ait Mansour.

The narrow road, and low hanging palm leaves, scrapped across the roof and down the sides of Priscilla. Fortunately there is barely any traffic, as there was only room for one, and even that’s a squeeze.

The road never really opened up but did get less palm-lined. Eventually a right turn towards the Akka Gold Mine. The gold mine opened in 2001 to exploit the gold deposits. It has now been all exploited and its focus is on copper mining.

We hit the “Akka Gold Mine Haul Road” which meant the end of the tarmac, and we were on a gravel road, reducing our speed to around 15 mph.

Around 20 miles of dusty, sandy road, in 25°C heat, with magnificent views.

We eventually came out onto the main highway for the last part into Tata City.

We were aiming for Camping Palmier, on the edge of Tata, but when we arrived the man said it was full. We explained we didn’t need electric and he escorted us to what seemed to be an overflow site.

Then came the battle to fill up with water. We had been in Tafraout for six nights without filling up, as the only water source is a truck comes around, but this wouldn’t work with our filter setup. Outcome of this was that we were almost completely out of water.

The battle is with the taps, as they hardly ever have a screw fitting, which makes connecting a challenge.

Now filled up with water (almost) and pitch set up, we then plonked ourselves in the sun for lunch, and it wass s nicely hot, and probably our hottest to datr, at around 27°C.

It was hot enough for us to wind out the awning and sit under that for the afternoon and get covered in dust. The ground is the finest dust, that fills the air with a slight breeze.

Later we showered all the dust off and walked into a very lively Tata town, had dinner at a street restaurant then returned for an evening beverage.
