Doolin Pier

The wind finally died down and the sun is out with barely a cloud in the sky.

We took a short walk out of the campsite along the road to Doolin Pier where you can get ferry trips over to the Aran islands and also the start of the walk along the Cliffs of Moher, which is on our agenda for tomorrow.

Today we walked along the limestone slabs of the Burren where it meets the Atlantic ocean and over to a line of carefully placed whiskey barrels full of water. These barrels are seaweed baths that are filled with hot water and in you plunge. A bit like the wild swimming, it’s supposedly good for you and we perhaps we would have tried it but it’s only open Friday to Sunday. So we had a good nose around and left slightly disappointed.

Our return walk took us past some shops selling the usual tourist bits and onto Hotel Doolin where we popped in for a pre lunch Guinness and an Irish Gunpowder gin.

We’ve decided to stay another night here as tomorrow we walk the Cliffs of Moher weather permitting, and it’s looking promising.
