Our plan was to ride up to Col Sabot today but we decided against that and went up Alpe Huez on the scooter instead. The idea of us riding the push bike up past swathes of people parked up at the side of the road while we struggled our way up did not appeal. There were motorhomes, tents of all types parked at the side of the road all the way up. Once we reached the top the large open areas had been turned into giant motorhome car parks.
We then rode the scooter further up past Huez to Lac Besson and Lac Noir, which in my opinion is the most beautiful part and one not to be missed and well worth the extra ride to the top. We had a walk around the lakes in the hot sun admiring the views and then made our way back down carefully, cyclists over taking us at times.
